Vanity

Of pomp and pride all vanity,

In diverse manners,in diverse guys,

That now is used in many manners wise,

They paint their faces, their garments bright,

And chase the praise of every passing sight,

Here reason sinks in bottom drowned,

Then to the grave they go despised,

Their’s a pampered carcass where worm riots,

O vanity sweet and gilded lie,

Thou teacheth man to live for eye,

Sins of self-love possess their mind,

Ah! the virtue turned into vice,

Is there a rabbi who on God relies?

Who from his pulpit vent peevish lies,

Now lies in his tomb withdrawn from public

sight,

What is the reward of all that toil?

Once more on earth the tyrants arise,

Loved sycophants who fed their pride,

Their thirst for wealth forever multiplies,

They frown with vanity put on treacherous smile,

At last to darkness they retired,

Vainglorious,tyrants and rabbis,

In grave now all undistinguished alies,

Ah! vanity vexation of human mind!

O man of ambitious restless mind,

Fix thy aim on Architect of Heavens right!

Earth shall last till the trumpet blown twice,

All fame and all worldly pleasures will die,

Most blessed are those who take pains for God’s

delight,

For them there is garden of heavens or paradise.
