People of the Cave

They didn’t bow down to earthly king,

And didn’t chase the fleeting things,

A band of youths with heart throbbing,

From Allah The Lord of Heavens they

seek blessings,

Never lock their tongue from fear of king,

To Allah alone their hearts submitting,

They fled their land their faith defending,

Unto a darkened cavern, they went hiding,

The sun passed by,its beams from them retreating,

By Allah’s command its rays not harming,

Whilst in deep slumber they lay, their dog guarding

By Allah’s decree they in stillness abiding,

300 years and more passed away like moments fleeting,

At length they wake up,one of them asking-

How long have we remained in this dwelling?

“A day” said one,or a part there of thinking,

Our Allah knows the time beyond our knowing,

They send one of them to town for provisions seeking,

With silver shillings in his hands, his origin revealing,

The townsfolk marvelled at their number questioning?

Allah alone, knows what they were all else unknowing,

Their waking resurrection, their slumber death resembling,

Their faith stronger than fear, the truth ever prevailing,

Though buried for time yet rising and reigning.
